The Gift of God

is Eternal Life

How can you be sure you have eternal life?

There are 5 things you need to know:

1. You are a sinner.

Don’t let these words offend you, let me explain.

Though you may be what others call a “good” person, the Bible says, ‘there is none that doeth good, no, not one’ (Romans 3:12).

The Bible goes on to say, ‘for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God’ (Romans 3:23)

You see, God’s standard of righteousness is absolute, sinless perfection, and you and I come short of it.

We all have broken God’s laws at some point.  For example, we all at one time have told a lie.  That one lie is enough to make us lawbreakers in the eyes of God.  Why?  Because God’s law says, ‘thou shalt not bear false witness’.

2. God will not overlook your sins.

The Bible says, ‘your sins have hid his face from you’ (Isaiah 59:2).

Because God is perfectly holy, your sins have separated you from God.  God is righteous and just, he cannot allow sin to go unpunished.   The punishment for sin is the Lake of Fire.

The Bible says, ‘But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”  (Revelation 21:8)

3. You cannot undo the sins you have already committed.

Going to church, baptism, sacraments, or starting over cannot undo or pay for the sins that you have already done.  If from today you did nothing but good deeds, it would not remove your need for forgiveness from Almighty God.

 But there is good news!

4. God has provided a way for you to be forgiven of your sins.

The Bible says, ‘But God commendeth his love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.’ (Romans 5:8).

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came to this earth and lived a perfect, sinless life.  When he died on the cross, he paid the penalty of your sins – past, present and future.  He was buried and three days later rose again.  This is what the Bible calls, ‘the Gospel’ – the Good News.

5. You must trust Jesus Christ and him alone, as the only way for your sins to be forgiven.

Do you believe you are a sinner?  Do you believe that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried and rose again?  Do you believe that only Jesus Christ can save you from your sins and the lake of fire?

If your answer is “yes”, then pray to God; ask for his forgiveness and receive the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour.

The Bible says, ‘For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved’ (Romans 10:13).

Are you certain of your eternal destiny?  You can be.
According to the Bible, the question of where you will spend eternity does not depend on what church you do or do not attend; what good deeds you have or have not done; or what sins you have or have not committed.  It depends entirely on whether or not you choose to trust completely in Jesus Christ as you Saviour.
Please do not put off that decision.

Your eternal destiny depends on your decision!
